A Clash of Narratives on X

The political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections has intensified following a digital exchange between Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, and Minister Festus Keyamo. The dispute began after Keyamo posted a tribute to President Bola Tinubu on X, describing the President’s rise from the "deep end of opposition" as a unique feat that places him far ahead of his political contemporaries. Shaibu quickly dismissed this portrayal, characterizing it as a desperate attempt to use past political battles to mask current governance failures.

"The Myth of Invincibility"

Shaibu’s response focused on what he termed "the myth of invincibility," a phrase he used to describe the administration's reliance on political storytelling rather than tangible results. He argued that while Tinubu may have been a skilled opposition strategist, those skills have not translated into effective leadership for the country. "The myth of invincibility is often the last refuge of a failing narrative," Shaibu stated, insisting that the present standard of living is the only scale on which the President should be judged.

Governance vs. Manipulation

According to Shaibu, the administration's claims of being "100 steps ahead" in political scheming mean nothing to millions of Nigerians struggling with a collapsing economy. He questioned the value of a political strategy that fails to secure communities or put food on the table. "Governance is not a masterclass in manipulation—it is a test of compassion, competence, and courage," Shaibu added. He further accused the government of being disconnected from the pain of citizens who are dealing with empty pockets and unsafe environments daily.
