Evening Altercation Leads to Police Intervention
The Atchison Police Department responded to a reported disturbance on Thursday evening in the 1100 block of North 7th Street. According to investigators, the conflict originated around 5:00 p.m. at a nearby park between two boys, ages 13 and 14. The situation escalated throughout the evening, eventually prompting a call to law enforcement at approximately 6:40 p.m. to address the ongoing dispute.
Threats Involving a Knife and Crowbar Reported
During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the 14 year old suspect allegedly brandished a knife and a crowbar during the altercation. The victim, a 13 year old boy, reported being threatened with both implements. Despite the presence of weapons and the volatile nature of the encounter, Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson confirmed that no injuries were reported by either party involved.
Suspect Remanded to Juvenile Detention
Following the initial inquiry at the scene, the 14 year old was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats. Chief Wilson stated that the boy was subsequently transported to a regional juvenile detention facility to await further legal proceedings. The identity of the minor has not been released due to his age, and authorities have not specified what triggered the initial disagreement between the two teenagers.
