Newey Maintains Control Amid Management Search
The subject of senior leadership at Aston Martin has come into sharp focus following 24 hours of intense speculation regarding a potential change at the top of the Silverstone-based squad. In response, an Aston Martin spokesperson clarified that the team will not engage in media rumors and confirmed that Adrian Newey continues to lead the organization in his dual role. Newey, who is also a minority shareholder, reportedly took on the Team Principal position in November 2025 as a temporary measure to bridge the gap between former boss Andy Cowell and a permanent appointment.
The Multi-Month Evaluation of Potential Candidates
While the team has reaffirmed Newey’s current status, reports indicate that a comprehensive search for a new, long-term leader has been underway since the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix. This process is not being driven by the team’s current on-track struggles, but rather by a strategic desire to bolster upper management. Newey is understood to be leading this search personally, looking for a candidate who can manage the day-to-day operations while he focuses on the technical development and design of the AMR26.
Shortlist of Elite Paddock Figures Emerges
Several high-profile figures from across the Formula 1 grid have been approached as part of Newey’s evaluation process. Among those contacted are Red Bull’s GianPiero Lambiase, who reportedly remains content in his current role, and former Aston Martin Group CEO Martin Whitmarsh. The search has also extended to the current leadership at Audi, specifically Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley. While Italian media recently suggested a deal with Wheatley was imminent, these reports are currently viewed as overblown, with the British engineer still heavily engaged in the burgeoning Audi project.
