Out-of-State Tip Initiates Investigation
The Ash Flat Police Department launched a comprehensive investigation on February 26 after receiving critical information from a law enforcement agency in another state. The report indicated that an individual residing in Ash Flat was sending sexually explicit videos to a juvenile. Upon receiving the case file and supporting evidence from the outside agency, local investigators identified 30-year-old Austin Dakota Miller as the primary suspect. The cross-jurisdictional cooperation was essential in pinpointing the digital footprint of the alleged crimes within Sharp County.
Suspect Admission and Forensic Evidence
During a Mirandized interview with detectives, Miller reportedly admitted to exchanging photos and videos of sexually explicit conduct with a minor. According to the arrest affidavit, he further informed officers that the illicit materials remained stored on his electronic devices. This admission allowed investigators to obtain a search warrant for a forensic download of his equipment. Special Agent Blair Ables, who assisted in the technical analysis, stated that the download yielded multiple instances of Miller engaging in sexually explicit conduct with juveniles, including at least 11 specific screenshots of a minor performing explicit acts.
Severity of Felony Charges
A Sharp County judge reviewed the evidence on March 26 and found probable cause for 17 distinct felony counts against Miller. The most severe of these are three counts of computer exploitation of a child in the first degree, which are classified as Class Y felonies in Arkansas—the highest level of felony in the state, punishable by life in prison. Additionally, Miller faces three Class B felony counts for possession or use of child sexual abuse material and 11 Class C felony counts for distributing, possessing, or viewing sexually explicit material involving a child.
