The Arctic Underdog Story Continues
Bodo/Glimt has officially etched its name into the history books as the competition's ultimate underdog story of the 2025-26 season. The debutant Norwegian side, based just north of the Arctic Circle, secured a stunning passage to the Round of 16 by eliminating three-time European champions Inter Milan. After winning both legs against last season's finalists, the "Glimt" completed their giant-killing act with a remarkable victory at the San Siro. This result is made even more incredible by the fact that the entire population of Bodø (approximately 55,000) could fit inside Inter's home stadium.
Unstoppable Momentum: From Zero to Four
Kjetil Knutsen’s side began their Champions League journey with a difficult six-game winless streak. However, since securing their first-ever win in January, they have been unstoppable. Bodo/Glimt has now won four consecutive Champions League matches against teams from Europe’s "top five" leagues—Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan (twice). This is the first time a team outside those top divisions has achieved such a feat in 54 years, since the legendary Ajax side of the early 1970s.
Player of the Week: Alexander Sorloth
While Bodo/Glimt stole the headlines, another Norwegian was dominating in Spain. Alexander Sorloth was named Player of the Week after firing Atletico Madrid into the Round of 16 with a clinical hat-trick against Club Brugge. Often underrated, the 30-year-old forward has become a devastating weapon for Diego Simeone, averaging a goal every 107 minutes across La Liga and the Champions League. With 39 goals in 89 games for Atleti, Sorloth’s first Champions League hat-trick in over a decade for the club proves his status as one of Europe's most efficient strikers.
