Administrative Adjustments Amidst Holiday Schedule
The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress has formally revised its internal electoral calendar, granting aspirants additional time to procure essential participation documents. According to the party's Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duru Meseko, the window for purchasing expression of interest and nomination forms has been extended until the midnight of Monday, May 4. This decision was reached during a National Working Committee meeting to accommodate potential candidates affected by the Friday public holiday. The party noted that numerous inquiries from across the country prompted the extension to ensure no willing participant is disenfranchised due to the holiday closure.
Navigating Venue Complications and Operational Delays
The schedule shift follows a morning of logistical tension at Continental Hotels in Abuja, where the party has been conducting its administrative business. Reports indicated that hotel management temporarily halted the nomination process, which some observers linked to disagreements over administrative arrangements. However, Meseko dismissed claims that these hiccups influenced the deadline adjustment, instead attributing any chaos at the venue to large crowds of supporters accompanying aspirants. To maintain order, the Commissioner of Police reportedly deployed 40 officers to the site, ensuring that the process could continue in a secure and orderly fashion.
Revised Deadlines for Form Submission
In addition to extending the purchase window, the ruling party has modified the timeframe for returning completed documentation. The deadline for the submission of all nomination forms has now been moved from its original Saturday date to the midnight of Tuesday, May 5. This one day buffer is intended to give aspirants sufficient time to finalize their paperwork following the extended purchase period. Despite these changes to the intake process, the party remains firm on its subsequent benchmarks, emphasizing that the primary election machinery will continue to move forward without further delay.
