A Massive Gathering of the APC Faithful in Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed that 8,453 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will participate in the party’s 8th National Convention. Scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026, the event is positioned as a critical juncture for the ruling party to refresh its leadership and refine its policy direction. At a press conference held on Thursday, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris highlighted the convention's scale, emphasizing that it serves as the ultimate decision-making platform for the party’s strategic future.

Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda

Under the theme “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the convention is designed to align party structures with the administrative goals of President Bola Tinubu. Idris noted that beyond the immediate task of electing new executives, the gathering is a moment for deep reflection on the party’s trajectory. The administration is using the event to showcase its commitment to national infrastructure, suggesting that the ongoing improvements to Abuja’s facilities will provide a seamless experience for the thousands of arriving delegates and the general public.

Logistics and Security Preparedness

With the countdown to the Friday opening underway, party officials have assured stakeholders that all coordination efforts are finalized. Aminu Bello Masari, Chairman of the 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee and former Governor of Katsina State, stated that 25 sub-committees have been working for weeks to cover every operational detail. Security measures have been significantly bolstered to safeguard the high-profile attendees. Minister Idris expressed confidence in these arrangements, noting that no security incidents had been recorded during the lead-up to the event.
