In a major expansion of its healthcare logistics, Amazon Pharmacy has added Eli Lilly’s Foundayo weight-loss pill to its rapid fulfillment network. Unlike traditional GLP-1 treatments that require complex cold-chain storage, Foundayo is a once-daily oral tablet that remains stable at room temperature. This chemical profile allows Amazon to house the medication within automated dispensing kiosks at One Medical locations, enabling patients to retrieve their prescription within minutes of a clinical consultation. Tanvi Patel, Vice President at Amazon Pharmacy, emphasized that this stability is the primary catalyst for broader public access, as it eliminates the logistical barriers associated with injectable alternatives.

Infrastructure Investment and Delivery Targets

The integration of Foundayo is supported by a massive $4 billion capital deployment executed by Amazon in 2025 to overhaul its delivery infrastructure. This investment aims to triple the company’s delivery capacity this year, specifically targeting rural areas and small towns that have historically faced pharmacy deserts. By the end of 2026, Amazon Pharmacy intends to offer same-day delivery in approximately 4,500 municipalities across the United States. According to Patel, nearly half of American customers currently reside within same-day service zones, with the company maintaining a strict four-day maximum delivery window for all other domestic orders.

Direct to Consumer Strategic Alignment

Amazon’s role as a dispensing partner for Eli Lilly underscores a shifting landscape in pharmaceutical sales, moving away from traditional retail intermediaries. The partnership facilitates prescriptions made through LillyDirect, the drugmaker’s proprietary direct-to-consumer platform, as well as through third-party prescribing partners like WeightWatchers. Eli Lilly’s decision to offer Foundayo at a cash-pay price of $149 per month for the starting dose reflects an aggressive strategy to capture the market for weight-loss therapies. By utilizing Amazon’s logistics, Lilly can bypass regional supply chain bottlenecks and reach patients directly at a competitive price point.
