The Formal Indictment of a Rising Musical Star
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office officially filed capital murder charges against David Anthony Burke, the singer professionally known as D4vd, on Monday. According to District Attorney Nathan Hochman, the 21 year old artist is accused of killing 14 year old Celeste Rivas Hernandez to prevent her from exposing a secret relationship that could have jeopardized his professional trajectory. The formal charges come after a months long investigation that has sent shockwaves through the music industry and the singer’s significant Gen Z following.
Chilling Discovery in a Hollywood Tow Yard
The investigation reached a critical turning point following the discovery of severely decomposed and dismembered remains in September 2025. According to police reports, employees at a Hollywood tow yard reported a strong odor emanating from a Tesla Model Y that had been impounded after being left on a public street for over 72 hours. Upon inspection, authorities discovered a cadaver bag containing a head and torso, with additional remains found in a separate bag underneath. The vehicle was subsequently traced back to an address in Texas linked to Burke and his family.
Allegations of Premeditation and Career Preservation
Prosecutors have alleged that the murder was committed under special circumstances, including lying in wait and for financial gain. According to the prosecution’s theory, Burke viewed the teenager as a witness to illegal acts who posed a direct threat to his lucrative music career. The District Attorney’s office argued that the killing was a calculated move to maintain his public image and commercial interests. These special circumstances make the case eligible for the death penalty, though a final decision on pursuing capital punishment has not yet been announced.
