A Strategic Management Partnership in the Defense Sector

The Accend Cos. has finalized an agreement with Allied Orion Group to manage a three property portfolio designed to serve the unique needs of service members and corporate professionals. This move consolidates the operations of Flats at Big Tex in San Antonio, M South in Tampa, and The Watermark in Norfolk under a single management entity. The partnership reflects a broader industry trend toward outsourcing operations to specialized firms that can handle the nuanced requirements of off base military housing and transient corporate residents.

Expanding Footprint in San Antonio’s Military Market

The largest asset in the transition is The Flats at Big Tex, a 336 unit community located at 423 Blue Star Street. The property is uniquely positioned to serve personnel from three major installations: Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, and Randolph Air Force Base. Offering a mix of studio, one, and two bedroom floor plans across six buildings, the community emphasizes lifestyle amenities such as multiple bark parks and fitness centers. Its proximity to the San Antonio River Walk Trail adds a significant urban appeal for off duty personnel.

Regional Growth and Operational Dynamics in Florida and Virginia

In Florida, the 288 unit M South community provides critical housing infrastructure just 4 miles from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Completed in 2018, the asset features specialized amenities like car wash stations and outdoor demonstration kitchens that cater to the long term needs of residents. Simultaneously, The Watermark in Norfolk, Virginia, serves the massive Naval Station Norfolk. With 180 units and a saltwater pool, this 2017 development addresses the persistent demand for modern, high quality housing near the world’s largest naval base.
