The South East wing of the All Progressives Congress successfully finalized its zonal congress at the Hotel Presidential in Enugu, resulting in the appointment of eight key executive officers. This political transition was initiated by a formal motion to dissolve the previous regional leadership, a move spearheaded by Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State and supported by Senator Patrick Ndubueze. The assembly, characterized by a significant turnout of party delegates from all five eastern states, underscored a deliberate shift toward a unified leadership structure intended to stabilize the party’s regional presence.

Strategic Consensus as a Tool for Political Stability

In a move to avoid internal friction, the party leadership opted for a consensus mode of election, a provision explicitly outlined in Article 20.1 of the APC Constitution. Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State clarified that this decision followed extensive high level deliberations held at the Government House prior to the public congress. Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu secured a mandate to continue his tenure as the National Vice Chairman for the South East, anchoring the newly formed executive team. The election also saw Chief Innocent Azuoba emerge as the Zonal Secretary, while Barrister Ernest Mayor Ogbonna was tasked with the role of Zonal Legal Secretary. Other notable appointments included Hon.
