Disavowal Of Unauthorized Party Gatherings

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing internal friction in Katsina State as the official Congress Committee moves to delegitimize a parallel exercise conducted by a faction of the party. Atiku Abubakar-Saleh, the Committee Chairman and ADC Deputy National Organising Secretary, addressed newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday to formally disown the gathering. He categorized the unauthorized congress as a direct violation of the party’s constitution and an attempt to undermine democratic unity ahead of the 2027 political cycle.

Adherence To National Working Committee Guidelines

According to Abubakar-Saleh, the only valid congresses are those organized under the mandate of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He emphasized that his committee was specifically constituted to ensure a transparent and credible process across the state. This official mandate includes the oversight of a Screening Committee, led by Dr. Sulaiman Maiyawo, which is tasked with ensuring due process. Any exercise conducted outside the authority of these NWC-approved bodies is considered null, void, and of no legal consequence to the party's structure.

Judicial Clearance And Scheduled Timelines

The push for official congresses follows a recent court judgment that cleared the path for the ADC to proceed with its internal elections. Following this legal go-ahead, the committee has established a strict timeline for the week: ward and local government congresses are scheduled for Wednesday, followed by the state congress on Thursday. Abubakar-Saleh noted that the party is committed to following these timelines strictly to maintain organizational order and fulfill its regulatory obligations.
