A Milestone in Central Asian Economic Integration
In a significant move to strengthen regional trade, the private sectors of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have finalized cooperation agreements totaling more than $514 million. The signing ceremony took place on Saturday, attended by the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, and the Governor of Uzbekistan’s Namangan region, Shavkat Abdurazaqov. These deals represent a concerted effort to bypass political isolation through robust commercial partnerships, focusing on long-term infrastructure and supply chain stability.
Diversification of Trade and Industry
The $514 million package covers an expansive array of sectors, moving beyond traditional cross-border commodities. Key components of the agreements include:
Infrastructure & Energy: Imports of oil, bitumen (asphalt), and copper to support Afghan reconstruction, alongside a steady trade in cement and coal.
Agriculture & Food Security: The establishment of a broiler chicken production facility and egg-laying poultry farms in Afghanistan.
