Afghanistan’s acting envoy to the United Nations, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, delivered a sobering assessment of the country’s human rights landscape during a Security Council session on Tuesday. Faiq stated that nearly five years into the current administration’s rule, there have been no meaningful signs of policy reversal regarding the status of women and girls. According to the envoy, Afghan women remain systematically excluded from almost every facet of public life, including secondary and higher education, most forms of employment, and civic participation. Faiq argued that this exclusion is not merely a social issue but a fundamental barrier to the country’s recovery from its profound political and economic crises.

Inclusive Governance as a Pillar of Stability

The UN briefing underscored the urgent need for a system of governance in Kabul that reflects the genuine will of the Afghan population. Faiq stressed that the people of Afghanistan deserve a framework built on dignity and justice rather than a rule imposed without representation. In addition to domestic concerns, Faiq used the UN platform to strongly criticize recent Pakistani airstrikes conducted inside Afghan territory. He reported that these military actions resulted in civilian casualties and constituted a clear violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and international law. These remarks highlight the deteriorating relationship between Kabul and Islamabad, as both nations continue to trade accusations regarding the harboring of militant groups.
