The Return of the "Fab Five" and Casting’s Debut
For the 98th ceremony, producers are reviving the "Fab Five" presentation style, where five past winners or colleagues speak directly to the nominees. While clip packages will still be used for most categories to showcase the year’s best work, the "Fab Five" format will specifically anchor the introduction of the first-ever Best Casting category. The goal is to educate the public on the complex, multifaceted nature of a casting director’s contribution to a film’s success.
A Slimmer Musical Slate: Quality Over Quantity
In a departure from tradition, this year’s telecast will feature only two major musical performances. The producers have opted to prioritize spectacle and global impact by focusing on:
“Sinners”: A performance from the record-breaking vampire drama that has dominated the awards conversation.
“K-Pop: Demon Hunters”: A massive tribute to the animated Netflix phenomenon that has garnered worldwide acclaim.
